Homework Task 1
Michael Jackson - Billie JeanThe music video starts off by showing a shadow of a person on the pavement, which takes place at night as you can tell by the type of environment in the music video. Then there is a close up shot of a man wearing blacked out glasses, this could increase the tension of the music video. The camera cuts from the man, to the cat and then to the man again, but then the camera cuts slowly towards his shoes closely. The camera switches to another close up shot towards the coin being thrown in the air, this could maybe suggest that music video involves banking.
There is another close up shot of Michael Jackson walking with his blazer in his hand. After the camera pans slowly towards the right showing the silver bin and a man lying down next it on the pavement. Immediately the camera zooms in towards Michael Jackson due to the fact, that he noticed a person next to the bin and possibly the man that is lying down is not well. There is another close up shot of Michael Jackson's hand of him throwing the coin into a small can tin. The can tin lit up very brightly the colour of it was yellow, once the coin was in the tin. The man that was lying down changed from a unhealthy person to a rich and clean person, due to the effect of the can tin.
There is an establishing shot of the building, light pole, pavements and road looking kind of messy, however there was no people around. Then literally a man runs in a hurry and then there is a close up shot of a newspaper being dropped by the man and the headline says in bold capital letters "BILLIE JEAN". He picks it up quickly and carries on running and then he stops immediately to find a place to hide, he hid around corner of the building with a close up shot of the man looking left and right. This could suggest that the mysterious man is up to something that may go well or not so well.
The camera cuts to another scene showing Michael Jackson's shoes whilst he is walking and then there is an immediate close up of him cleaning his shoes. After there is a medium close up of him casually walking looking decent whilst the mysterious man is still hiding. Then Michael Jackson waits patiently and then that's when the mysterious man comes up to him sneakily.
Suddenly there is a medium close up shot of the mysterious man looking confused, because Michael Jackson disappeared, although he saw him with his own eyes. Then the camera turns into a establishing shot of the place with man looking around to try and find Michael Jackson.
The camera cuts to another scene and there is a deep focus shot of Michael Jackson singing and dancing. The deep focus shot continues on Michael Jackson for quite some time before the camera cuts to a photo of Michael Jackson.
There is three video collages of Michael Jackson doing different things in the music video. This could make the effect of the music video more interesting and entertaining. Also this goes on for quite some time.
There is camera cuts of Michael Jackson dancing and walking to produce the real effect of the music video and to make the target audience on their toes.
Michael Jackson walks up the stairs and after he gets their there is a close up shot of him waiting patiently in a room. Meanwhile, the mysterious man makes his way up the stairs whilst there is another close up shot of a lady in the house minding her own business.
There is a deep focus shot of Michael Jackson still patiently waiting in a room. The camera cuts quickly to the mysterious man watching him through the window with his binoculars.
There is another close-up shot of Michael Jackson tucking himself into bed.
The camera cuts to another scene as the policemen arrive and the lady that was in the building directs them to find the mysterious man by that scene the spell for the mysterious man to capture Michael Jackson was over. Then another close up is introduced of the policemen as they arrest the mysterious man, whilst Michael Jackson is in bed with his duvet.
The music video ends by a close shot of the policemen dragging the mysterious man and then after the camera cuts to an establishing shot of the policemen taking the mysterious man away.
Homework Week 1:Unit 26: Film Studies
The film I watched was called 'Think Like a Man Too'. It is a romantic comedy film which was released in 20th June 2014, directed by Tim Story. The brief summary of this film is that all the couples are back for a wedding in Las Vegas, but plans for a romantic weekend goes wrong when their various misadventures get them into some compromising situations that threaten to derail the big event.
In terms of the conventions and codes for this film there was love couples. Also there was a voiceover explaining each couples situation as they were together, especially the bride and the groom - Regina Hall(Candace Hall) and Terrence J (Michael Hanover). There was definitely one use of iconography between these two characters which was the ring. This was done in this film to present the marriage between the two towards the end of the film. So therefore relating to Regina Hall(Candace Hall) and Terrence J(Michael Hanover) this film was mostly stylised in a particular for instance, a wedding since these two characters were due to get married.
The music that was played during the film was hip-hop like and all the songs that were played in the film was sung by Mary J Bigle. Probably the reason they have included these kind of music, because the film was set in America around Las Vegas and when people mention Las Vegas that place seems a lively place to go to. Considering that they have strip clubs and also the town is always busy so that is the reason they have probably chose these songs for the film to add excitement in terms of the genre.
Many different technical codes were used in this film particularly close up shots and medium shots to attract the emotions of each couple, especially towards the bride and groom to be. By doing these particular shots it adds curiosity and also it focuses hugely on the actors and actresses in terms of their body language leading up to the wedding.
The setting of the film was mostly set in a hotel, although the characters went out to Las Vegas the day before the wedding. The fact it was set in a hotel demonstrates that they came to stay at a hotel for a special occasion which was a wedding. The use of lighting for the film was bright colours this presents that the use of bright lighting relates to a romantic comedy genre and it also shows that the film is not boring. In terms of the costumes the characters were wearing they were very good looking clothes on the day they went out to Las Vegas and also on the day of the wedding. The clothing that would have definitely stood out in the film during the wedding scene would have been the bride and the groom, alongside bridesmaid and the grooves men.
The usual thing about this film is that Kevin Hart as (Cedric Ward) didn't travel to Las Vegas with his wife whereas all his mates had a wife with them to company them to Las Vegas. This could signify that Cedric and his wife did not have decent and smooth relationship comparing to the other couples, although Romany Malco as (Zeke) and his girlfriend Meagan Good as (Mya) had rough patch due to Zeke's past, but they eventually got solid together once Zeke proposed to her coming towards the end of the film.
